Excerpt from My Father’s Fight of Honor (from the diary of William Glenn Griffin WWII 1943 – 1946) - published Rebecca Jones

Pg 58

In March 1943 my daddy took this Oath to serve in the US Army

“For God and country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes: to uphold and defend The Constitution of the United States of America, to maintain law and order, to foster and perpetuate a 100% Americanism, to preserve the memories and incidents of our Association in the Great Wars, to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses, to make right the master of might, to promote peace and goodwill on earth, to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of Justice, Freedom and Democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.”

George McGovern quote. “The highest patriotism is not a blind acceptance of official policy, but a love of one’s country deep enough to call her to a higher plain.” Patriotism comes from the heart. It is voluntary and it is a feeling of loyalty and allegiance that is the result of knowledge and belief. May we continue to pray and uphold those who chose to serve and give us our freedom.
