Excerpt from My Father’s Fight of Honor (from the diary of William Glenn Griffin WWII 1943 – 1946) - published Rebecca Jones

Pg 58

In March 1943 my daddy took this Oath to serve in the US Army

“For God and country, we associate ourselves together for the following purposes: to uphold and defend The Constitution of the United States of America, to maintain law and order, to foster and perpetuate a 100% Americanism, to preserve the memories and incidents of our Association in the Great Wars, to inculcate a sense of individual obligation to the community, state and nation; to combat the autocracy of both the classes and the masses, to make right the master of might, to promote peace and goodwill on earth, to safeguard and transmit to posterity the principles of Justice, Freedom and Democracy; to consecrate and sanctify our comradeship by our devotion to mutual helpfulness.”

George McGovern quote. “The highest patriotism is not a blind acceptance of official policy, but a love of one’s country deep enough to call her to a higher plain.” Patriotism comes from the heart. It is voluntary and it is a feeling of loyalty and allegiance that is the result of knowledge and belief. May we continue to pray and uphold those who chose to serve and give us our freedom.

Excerpt from my book Changing Tides (written by Rebecca Jones and Kandice Antwine)

 Page 51

How can you ask God to bless your steps when you are not willing to move your feet?

********************************************************

Have you ever noticed that when you step out in faith it forces you to lean into or depend on God in a way you wouldn’t otherwise? You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. I believe that faith is taking the first step even when you do not see the whole staircase. Because stepping out from the known to the unknown is called a step of faith.

Excerpt from my book “Little Miss Muffin Bakery and more…” (written by Rebecca Jones) - when I had a bakery business

Recipe- Easter Eggs

1 ½ sticks butter, softened

¾ cup creamy peanut butter

1 ½ tablespoon light corn syrup

½ teaspoon vanilla extract

24 oz. package of chocolate candy coating.

Combine butter, peanut butter, corn syrup and vanilla. Mix with an electric mixer on low until well blended. Gradually add powdered sugar until mixture is no longer sticky and can be handled with hands. Divide into 6 portions. Shape each portion into an oval shape with a flat bottom and rounded like an egg on top. Place oval shaped eggs on wax paper. Cover loosely and let sit at room temperature for 12 hours.

Place candy coating in top of double boiler and melt. Carefully dip bottom of each egg into the coating. Place on wax paper and refrigerate for 15 minutes. Place eggs on wire rack over some paper towels. Spoon the candy coating over the eggs, letting the excess drip. Place eggs again in the refrigerator for 15 minutes until firm.

Can decorate with frosting of desired.

Easter is the only time of year when it is safe to put all your eggs in one basket!

Excerpt from my book Living Between the Dash (written by Rebecca Jones)

“Even though they grew up as opposites as far as economics were concerned, they both had a Christian upbringing. Marriage was for life. The bible was clear on that. Until death do we part and the covenant with God was real and important to both of them. Divorce was never an option.”

****************************************************

A perfect marriage is just two imperfect people who refuse to give up on each other.  Hold hands every chance you can. Be the best you can be. Listen and hug often. Be the first to say I am sorry. Always be willing to compromise and respect one another. But most of all remember WHY you fell in live in the first place.

Excerpt from my book Journey Through North Carolina (written by Rebecca Jones)

Page 7

(At Salter Path in November) “The clouds exploded with rain. I opened my umbrella and the wind flipped it inside out. A bolt of lightning flashed the sky. A mix of terror and exhilaration seized me. The ‘show’ up in the sky was like a full-scale musical. I felt like I was at a performance. For me, my life, its sunny days and its stormy ones, too, is worth the price of admission.”

***************************************************************

I have found in my life that not all storms come to disrupt my life; some come to clear my path. When I was laid off a job that I had spent 22 years of my life, I was devastated. But God was clearing my path to move here to Beaufort and to start something new. And once the storm is over you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person who walked in.
